Lynn Hill

Crazy good climber, to say the least. If you don't know much about her, and her impact on climbing, google her or something.
Brief bio tho--She's 47 and still crushes....She free-climbed the Nose on El Cap before any other climber, male or female (14 years ago....and then, she did it in a day...proud, very proud. She's wons competitions the world over and sent hard routes everywhere.

It was very impressive watching her climb since she's pretty short and since Horse Pens is a pretty "reachy" climbing area.
Obviously her 33(!!!) years of climbing experience showed as she was able to figure out here own beta, which was usually
pretty damn technical/creative. And she's still really damn strong...example, while at "Landslide" which is a pretty difficult slopey/squeezy problem, she walked up in approach shoes and pulled up...with ease. She didn't send, or spend much time on it but I was definitely impressed.

I can only hope that I'll be able to climb half as well as her when I am 47.

Should be some more photos of her after tomorrow....56 degree day at Horse Pens, should be good.
Slacklining.

Pretty cool to photograph really...

"Fall Colors"

-A series of shots showing how quickly (and beautifully) the leaves are changing colors at HP40. Shots were taken with a
Nikon lens that has a super shallow depth of field (basically, lots of blur surrounding focus/subject)...The amazing thing
about this lens though, and a feature I'm growing to love, is that you can control/add the amount of blur and where it takes
place, creating beautiful blurred colors with crazy stuff going on in the highlights. So, I'm definitely digging the lens. Also, no photoshop work has been done to make the images have the "painterly" look to them, that's just one way to use this lens... Incredible really.

Here's a series of shots from today, taken at the Firehouse Shelter in downtown Bham. Shot it for Portico but am thinking
of doing a series of followups, or continuing it and making a personal project of sorts. Very interesting people and by that I mean that these homeless men and women, who have lives filled with such struggle/pain, seemed to have an amazing outlook on life, at least most of the ones I spoke with. Many said how lucky they are to still be here, still be alive and that they appreciate what they have, even if it's not much.

Honestly, I was inspired by these people and plan to go back a few more times over the next month or so, so stay tuned.

Luv that last shot.

Two more (old) candids from Paris.

Saturday, October 18, 2008

Once again I'm dreaming/plotting about another trip to Font/Paris. Just can't get that place outta my head.

One of my first (and favorite) shots from my trip to France, January 07. Shot from the hip with a 24mm lens.

Classic. And to think that that was the start of my photography obsession, then career, not even two years ago.

Three shots from a night session at the B Fields.

It's amazing to me to be able to shoot at night with no flash or tripod, the only light coming from headlamps, and get some pretty good, i.e. not too blurry, photos. Here's a few...

Word
Well, I've never posted a video on here but I was rummaging through some old files on my old hard drive and stumbled across this, a video from fontainebleau of a classic problem/dyno. I filmed myself on two problems while I was there, two I felt were unique and classic. Here is one of them...

p.s. not sure what the quality will be like but if it sucks, deal with it. also, after the video part is over the audio will continue running, dont know why, nor do i care

Here it is..

...and yes, chalking up lasted longer than the actual climb...ha!

Good times.

Two more from the beach.

Two more wedding shots from this weekend.

Well, after seven long days shooting in Gulf Shores and Mobile, I am now back in Birmingham. It was a pretty grueling week, everyday was basically 12 hours of shooting, lugging equipment around, and being on my feet. Oh and being on the beach...it was definitely hot.

The shooting was good though and I feel like I got some good images from the trip, that and getting paid pretty well definitely makes the week worth it.

Here's a few candid shots from the wedding in Mobile on Saturday. I really dig shooting weddings very candidly, just moving around constantly, always looking for a unique shot/light. Will post some more later on...

Been in Gulf Shores all week (really long week) for work and tomorrow I'm shooting (assisting) a wedding in Mobile. Ugh, then back to Gulf Shores to shoot all day Sunday, THEN drive home late that night so I can do a shoot for Portico on Monday morning...after that I'm going to climb, then sleep for 2 days.

Here's a few shots from this week.

Caution, venting below:

I've often felt that Birmingham is a boring/shitty place, referring to it as a bubble and a toxic environment for growth...which I personally feel is true. I now have a new adjective to describe this place I call home; claustrophobic. I think it fits.

The ever-present urge to move away from here is growing day by day....Paris or New York anyone?

What can I say, it's been a bad day....but that doesn't change the fact sooner rather than later I've got to get out.

That is all.

Shooting the "Fashion" section for Portico (November) today.....I have to admit I'm a tad bit nervous about it since it will be my first time doing it, and I'll be doing it solo. Oh AND the models are not professionals...Scary!

Should be very, very interesting.
